Paul Cézanne was born in Aix-en-Provence, January 19, 1839. His father Hatter become banker in 1848, did marry Anne-Elisabeth Aubert, the mother of his son Paul, in 1844, when it is enrolled in public school in the Rue des Epineaux.

From 1844 to 1858 , Paul Cézanne will be on the St. Joseph and college Bourbon, Mignet current college where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts with " good enough" , 12 November 1858 Catholic school. It is in the playground of the school Paul Cézanne met Emile Zola in 1852 with whom he will frequent walks in the Aix countryside . From 1857 to 1862 , Paul enrolled in the free municipal art school where he graduated in 1859 , second prize drawing . In 1858, Emile Zola left Aix for Paris Cezanne and plans to join him there. In April 1861, he tears his father permission to devote himself to painting and finds Emile in Paris . Disappointed by this first visit , he returned to Aix in September working as a clerk in his father's bank . During the first ten years , Cézanne alternated his stays between Aix and Paris . When in Paris, he regularly attended the Louvre where he forged his artistic taste. Two French artists particularly his favor : Delacroix and Courbet. Cézanne painted impasto with painting knives . Its colors are dark, saturated his painting canvases. During the Franco -Prussian War in 1870 , Cézanne hides L'Estaque , near Marseilles to escape mobilization , along with the one in 1869 , it often serves as a model : Hortense Fiquet . This meeting will have a son , Paul, in 1872, but Cézanne married Hortense in 1886 , fourteen years later. Cézanne painted alongside Pissarro and the two artists influence each other. During this period which will last eleven years , Cézanne often painted in Auvers -sur -Oise , where he settled for a time with Hortense and little Paul . Planting his easel on the banks of the Oise and the Seine, in the countryside around Paris , Cézanne is learning to paint outdoors. His palette became lighter . His touch becomes finer and more accurate. In 1874 and 1877 he exhibited with the Impressionists. Apart from some fans , as Victor Choquet Cézanne meeting in 1875 , the vast majority of the public , whether in Paris or Aix , does not include the painting of Cézanne and mocks his work. After a long stay at Melun in 1879 , Cézanne in Provence and receives back in 1882, Renoir 's visit to L'Estaque . That same year he exhibited for the only time in the Salon with through Quotes . In 1883, he traveled in the company of Provence Monticelli and is visited Renoir and Monet. In this last period of eleven years , his painting becomes more hectic , its increasingly blurred shapes. In 1895, the exhibition organized in his Vollard gallery in Paris sits the reputation of Cézanne with young artists and a few amateurs. In 1896, after a course in Vichy, he lived on Lake Annecy. That same year, he befriended the young poet Aachen , Joachim Gasquet . His mother died in 1897. In 1899 , the year of the sale of the Jas de Bouffan , Cézanne exhibited three paintings at the Salon des Independants. His fame became international . Museums of Berlin and Essen buy it works . In a painting entitled "Homage to Cézanne ," Maurice Denis luis group around some young painters and admirers : Maurice Denis , Odilon Redon, Roussel, Sérusier , Vuillard . In 1902, Zola's death deeply affects . In 1904 and 1905 he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne . His work was consecrated . October 15 , 1906, overtaken by a storm while he painted in the Aix countryside " shed Jourdan ", he is struck by congestion. He died October 23, 1906 , one year after the onset of Fauvism , two years before that of Cubism , four years before the first abstract painting.
